United States Defeated in United Nations

While exercising the veto, the Russian ambassador to UN, Vitaly Churkin said, “ We have seen an effort to take the council beyond its charter prerogatives. We believe such practices are illegitimate and dangerous leading to a realignment of the UN system. The draft (resolution) is nothing but the council’s attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of a member state.”

China however felt that Zimbabwe crisis did not constitute a threat to international peace and security over which the council has jurisdiction. Chinese ambassador said,” To use or threaten to use sanctions lightly is not conductive to solving problems.”

In fact it is the growing tendency of US to meddle in the internal affairs of other countries, after the demise of Socialist block led by USSR in Eastern Europe, which has resulted in the defeat of US in UN as per a political analyst. To assert themselves and block dominance of Western countries in general and US in particular in the UN, Russia, China and developing nations are now flexing their muscles.

It is well known that US always act in its strategic interest and their concerns for humanity is but crocodile’s tears. A typical case is Bangladesh. Whole through the 1971, the Pakistani Army steam rolled Bengalis killing some 300000, exterminating intelligentsia there, denying the people of East Pakistan the right to form Central Government in spite of handsome win in elections, US kept mum and the thought of security council resolution did not occur in their fertile brain, just because Pakistan was their strategic partner.

US are a strong country and are capable of defending them in any eventuality. In the changed world order, after dissolution of USSR, they have a greater role to play, but as a champion of Humanity they should be liberal, accommodating and set examples for others as a true guardians of world peace, rather than sending secretaries of state on tours, thrusting their own decisions on others, toppling governments and all sorts of nasty games. People of the world want US to take a true role of a mature guardian in world order rather than looking into self-interest only.
