some more substantial posts soon

I'll return to some more substantial posts soon, but for now I just wanted to point anyone interested in speculative realism over to a new group blog that Ben from Naught Thought, Taylor from Fractal Ontology, and myself have started up: Speculative Heresy.

Our hope for the blog is for it to provide a central English website for resources on speculative realism, non-philosophy and the like. For the moment, the website is still in the construction phase, but it's being added to everyday, and there's already a few posts up to read, including some translations. So with any luck, the blog will rapidly grow and ideally become a great place for the discussion of all the issues surrounding speculative realism.

The Sidebar Update

I recently looked at my sidebar and realized I haven't updated my debt and savings totals since 7/1/08! And none of you said anything! Hmph! Kidding. I was excited to change that student loan to a $0 owed. And I was able to add a big jump to the HELOC paid number too. All should be updated now. I'm low on blog post ideas at the moment. Anything you want to know about me? My debt elimination marathon? My views on the economy right now?

Reversing the Critical Turn

Continuing with the series I began here: , I want to look now at how Francois Laruelle attempts to move beyond the Kantian critical turn. I'm going to avoid going too deeply into his project, and focus mostly on how he justifies his work.

The Axiomatic Approach:
Laruelle’s general stance towards the critical injunction can be summed up in his claim that, “It is necessary to start from the real, otherwise you will never get to it.” (Derrida & Laruelle, “Controversy over the Possibility of a Science of Philosophy”) This directly opposes the numerous attempts to work within language, discourse, philosophy, culture, consciousness, subjectivity, etc. and discern a way to escape the correlationist circle.

United States Defeated in United Nations

While exercising the veto, the Russian ambassador to UN, Vitaly Churkin said, “ We have seen an effort to take the council beyond its charter prerogatives. We believe such practices are illegitimate and dangerous leading to a realignment of the UN system. The draft (resolution) is nothing but the council’s attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of a member state.”

China however felt that Zimbabwe crisis did not constitute a threat to international peace and security over which the council has jurisdiction. Chinese ambassador said,” To use or threaten to use sanctions lightly is not conductive to solving problems.”

In fact it is the growing tendency of US to meddle in the internal affairs of other countries, after the demise of Socialist block led by USSR in Eastern Europe, which has resulted in the defeat of US in UN as per a political analyst. To assert themselves and block dominance of Western countries in general and US in particular in the UN, Russia, China and developing nations are now flexing their muscles.

It is well known that US always act in its strategic interest and their concerns for humanity is but crocodile’s tears. A typical case is Bangladesh. Whole through the 1971, the Pakistani Army steam rolled Bengalis killing some 300000, exterminating intelligentsia there, denying the people of East Pakistan the right to form Central Government in spite of handsome win in elections, US kept mum and the thought of security council resolution did not occur in their fertile brain, just because Pakistan was their strategic partner.

US are a strong country and are capable of defending them in any eventuality. In the changed world order, after dissolution of USSR, they have a greater role to play, but as a champion of Humanity they should be liberal, accommodating and set examples for others as a true guardians of world peace, rather than sending secretaries of state on tours, thrusting their own decisions on others, toppling governments and all sorts of nasty games. People of the world want US to take a true role of a mature guardian in world order rather than looking into self-interest only.

US siad that Iran serioues with nuclear talks

First public comments since Saturday's meeting in Switzerland, Rice said Iran had given the run-around to envoys from the US and five other world powers. Rice said all six nations were serious about a two-week deadline Iran now has to agree to freeze suspect activities and start negotiations or be hit with new penalties. At the meeting, Iran had been expected to respond to a package of incentives offered in exchange for halting enrichment of uranium, which can be used to fuel atomic weapons. Rice said that instead of a coherent answer, Iran's chief nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili delivered a "meandering" monologue full of irrelevant "small talk about culture" that appeared to annoy many of the others present at the table in Geneva. Rice told reporters aboard her plane as she flew to the United Arab Emirates.

United States,US, Federal Reserve and Treasury

The heads of the United States,US, Federal Reserve and Treasury have moved to calm fears about the financial health of the nation's two largest mortgage firms. Shares in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac recorded another poor trading in recent weeks amid talk of a government ball-out.

Ben Bernanke, head of the reserve, and Henry Paulson, the Treasury secretary, also called for new powers to shield the economy from crises and told the US Congress they needed to modernise the regulatory system.

They told a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee t5hat Fannie Mae Freddie Mac had aqdequate capital. Investors fear the two mortgage firms may need a government bail-out, after comments from a former central banker that suggested the institutions might6 not be solvent. Both firms are raising funds to cover losses of more than $11 billion (5.6 billion pounds) since the credit crisis began last year. '' Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are also working through this challenging period. They play an important role in our housing markets today and need to continue to play an important role in the future. Their regulator has made it clear that they are adequately capitalised,'' Paulson said.

Freddie Mac shares slid 22 per cent to $8 aqnd Fnnie Mae lost 13,8 per cent to $13.20, but Bernanke said that while current efforts were being concentrated on steadying the state of the US economy, it was not too early to consider measures to ensure the '' orderly'' liquidation of finance firms on the verge of bankrupcy in the future.
